Committee Name: Reference, Instruction, and Outreach (RIO)

Reports To: Council for Research Services and Collections

Committee Charge: 

RIO (Reference, Instruction, and Outreach) is a coordinating group charged with recommending, coordinating, and evaluating programs and projects regarding reference, instruction, and outreach services to the Yale community. The group reports to the Council on Research Support and Collections.

The charge includes:

  • Partnering with colleagues within the Library (e.g., Beinecke Rare Book Library and Manuscripts and Archives) and throughout the University (e.g., the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences) to develop user-centered services and educational offerings
  • Coordinating training and providing support for liaison librarians
  • Promoting dialogue about reference, instruction, and outreach topics among Library staff
  • Charging task forces to carry out relevant projects

Member selection method: Members are chosen by CRSC to represent divisions within the Library that provide reference, instruction, and outreach services (Arts Area Libraries, CSSSI, Divinity, DASHRS, Law, Medical, Special Collections).
