This is a Guide for YUL staff to help identify scripts and which selector they belong to.

Scripts not displaying?

Hint: if some fonts aren't displaying:

  1. View this page in firefox or chrome.
  2. Make sure the browser character encoding is UTF-8
  3. Else: look at the language name page in Omniglot

Common languages at YUL

  • Hebrew (a RTL script) can be used for these languages, plus many others:
    • הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים
    • Hebrew, Yiddish, etc. [Judaica]
  • Armenian can be used for:
    • Իմ սաւառնակս օձաձկներով լեցուն է:
    • Armenian [Slavic/East Europe]
  • Ethiopic can be used for:
    • ምድርም ሁሉ በአንድ ቋንቋና በአንድ ንግግር ነበረች።
    • Amharic, Argobba, Awngi, Blin, Chaha, Dizin, Ge'ez, Harari, Inor,
      Silt'e, Tigre, Tigrinya, Xamtanga [Africa]

  • Thai can be used for these languages:
    • โฮเวอร์คราฟท์ของฉันเต็มไปด้วยปลาไหล
    • Thai [Southeast Asia]
  • Lao can be used for :
    • ເຈົ້າປາກພາສາອັງກິດໄດ້ບໍ່
    • Lao [Southeast Asia]
  • Khmer can be used for:
    • សុទ្ធ​តែ​អន្ទង់​ពេញ​ទូក​ហោះ​យើង
    • Khmer/Cambodian [Southeast Asia]
  • Tamil can be used for:
    • என் மிதவை நிறைய விலாங்கு மீன்கள்
    • Tamil [South Asia, Southeast Asia]
  • Malayalam can be used for:
    • എന്‍റെ പറക്കും-പേടകം നിറയെ വ്ളാങ്കുകളാണ്
    • Malayalam, Konkani [South Asia]
