If you are looking for materials that are not available in Yale libraries, you may request them from other libraries through Borrow Direct or Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Borrow Direct allows you to borrow books from the libraries of Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Penn, Princeton, University of Chicago and John Hopkins University. Most books are available for pick up at designated Yale libraries within 4 business days. 

If the book you want is not available from Borrow Direct, or if you need articles, microfilms and other research materials, you can use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to obtain them. Books are often available for pick up at designated Yale libraries within 2 weeks. Copies of articles can be delivered to you electronically and are often available in 1-2 weeks.

Please follow the Romanization rules for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages when you search in Borrow Direct or fill out the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) form; otherwise you or the ILL staff will have a problem locating the materials. 

In addition, the East Asia Library is able to handle interlibrary loan requests for Japanese journal articles (no *books*) from Japan and U.S. Japanese collections outside of Yale. To request a journal article, you can simply email Haruko Nakamura. Provide as much citation information as you can (title, author, ISSN, page number, etc), along with your contact information.
