Japanese Reference Materials for Studying Japanese Cinema at Yale University: Company Histories

Overview

Company histories can provide a lot of detailed information on the films produced at a studio, the structure and changes in the companies, as well as business data. They are essential for investigating the industrial side of a Japanese cinema that, in the heyday of the studios, was very much based on company styles. There are many books about the film studios, but I focus here on the histories produced by the institutions themselves, arranged by studio name. It is worth looking at several editions because they can be significantly different.
