YOUR FIELD LIBRARIAN

You can travel to the end of the Earth and still be connected to the Library (and its resources and services) via a Field Librarian who can assit with your study or research abroad. (For more information on the Field Librarian program, see the specific page on this guide.)

What can a Field Librarian do for you?

As a subject specialist, your Field Librarian is able to advise you on specific Library resources pertaining to your destination country, course or area of research, as well as on the best way to access this resources from abroad.

More importantly, your Field Librarian  will be available to support your Library and research needs before your departure as well as during your period abroad (and also after your return, if need be).

In sum, your Field Librarian  will be your point of contact for the Library – a resource person for just about anything Library-related.

If you are planning or considering a study or research trip abroad and do not have a Field Librarian, please contact Graziano Krätli (graziano.kratli@yale.edu) or Emily Horning (emily.horning@yale.edu).

FAQ

Borrowing Privileges

Q: Can I take Library books abroad?

A: You are strongly advised to return all Library books before you leave, in case they are recalled and to prevent losses, damages, etc.

Borrow Direct & Interlibrary Loan

Q: Can I submit a Borrow Direct or Interlibrary Loan request from abroad

A: Technically you can, but the Library will deliver only to one of the designed pick-up locations on campus. Books and other research materials in traditional media will not be sent to non-Yale campus destinations.

On the other hand, if you are requesting a document that can be delivered electronically, you will receive it as an attachment to your e-mail address.

Orbis

Q: Can I access Orbis?

A: Yes, you can (provided you are connected to the Internt).

Databases & Other Electronic Resources

Most electronic resources are restricted to members of the Yale community and will not be accessible from a non-Yale computer unless it is set up for off-campus access.
