Staying at the Library in Farmington

Arrival Registration and Paperwork

Plan to arrive at the Library during open hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 pm

Wednesday 10:00 am - 4:45 pm

Come to the main door of the Library          a red arrow points to an entrance situated between a red barn-like building and a white colonial-style house

 

If you are staying at the Timothy Root House, we'll give you your keys and show you to your room.

July tends to be the warmest month, and January is the coldest. In the warmest months (une, July, and August) average high temperatures range from 78 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit with some days in the 90s.Humidity in Farmington during the summer is high. July is the warmest month of the year with a mean high of 72 degrees, and December, January, and February are the coldest with average high temperatures in between 35 and 41 degrees Fahrenheit and a mean high below freezing. October is the rainiest month in Farmington but rain can be expected at any time and snow is common during January, February, and March. Farmington tends to get more snow than New Haven.

The Library building and the Timothy Root House residence both have central heating and air conditioning. 

Fall Foliage

For those of you planning to visit the Library in autumn, the leaves start turning in September, and usually the weeks of peak foliage color are mid- to late October.

There is no public transportation directly to the Lewis Walpole Library or connecting the Library with the Yale New Haven campus.

Parking at the Lewis Walpole Library is on-site and free of charge to researchers

Events

A bulletin board opposite the Visiting Scholars' kitchen includes postings about local and New Haven campus events. A list of residents at the Root House is posted there as well.

Exhibitions at the LWL

The Library's exhibitions are on view in the Exhibition Gallery at the far end of the corridor. It is open to the public Wednesdays from 2-4:30, but you are welcome to visit it at any time during the Library's open hours. Just ask a staff member for assistance. The closest shopping plaza is located a quarter of a mile south (turn right out of the driveway) along Main Street. In addition to several places to get food, the plaza includes the following:
