Frequently Asked Questions
Was this production filmed, and can I buy or borrow a copy?
Yale Repertory Theatre: Unfortunately performances by the YRT are almost never filmed or videorecorded due to restrictions by Actors Equity (the union for actors and stage managers). There have been a few exceptions, including some productions that originated at YRT and later transferred to New York. In general Equity only allows the filming of certain productions in NYC. In case you are interested, all such films and videos are archived at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and may only be viewed there.
Yale School of Drama: Some student productions at YSD have been filmed. Download the list here.
How can I get photographs of productions at YRT or YSD?
Please contact the marketing and publicity staff at YRT for both theaters. There are publicity photos of several recent and some older productions for both YTR and YSD on the YRT Press Photos page.
How can I find out who played a certain character in a YRT or YSD production?
You may find the information you want by looking at the production histories and archives for YRT and YSD. Often the only information available in the production histories is a list of actors, without showing what roles they played. You may need to go to the archives of theater programs for that level of detail.
What was the title of a play I saw sometime during these years?
You may find the information you want by looking at the production histories of YRT, YSD and/or the Dramat. You may need to check all of these lists, because all three use the various performance venues (the Yale Rep theater, the University Theatre, etc.).
What plays did this actor work on while studying at YSD?
See the Famous People page for information on selected actors. You may also want to check production histories (see above).
Where can I find a review of a production at YRT or YSD?
You may be able to find reviews from the New Haven Register, the Hartford Courant, and the New York Times -- see the Reviews page for more information. If you need further assistance, please contact the reference staff at the Hass Family Arts Library, or me.
