      About This Guide

This purpose of this guide is to serve as a resource for those beginning research on emerging markets/developing economies. The first step in this process is defining "emerging markets", an ambiguous and ever shifting term:

      • The Wikipedia entry for Emerging Markets contains a history of the use of the term as well as links to other sites.

      • Googling definition: emerging markets also turns up several explanations, including  Define Emerging Markets, a commentary appearing in the 1/29/2008 issue of Forbes.

      • Other definitions can be found in the IMF World Economic Outlook.
