Subject Guide List
What's Here
Yale librarians have developed many "subject guides" to help orient you to the wide range of resources available for your research, and information you may need to know in order to use those resources effectively.
The following list is oriented toward the main topics and programs at Yale. Not every department and program has a subject guide, and there are a few guides intended to meet interest even though Yale doesn't offer a degree in the subject. For some programs, look under the most relevant subject -- for example, if you're interested in American Studies, find the History subject guide, and then look for the US History pages.
Recommended Reading
The Craft of Research - Booth, Colomb, Williams
Call Number: Bass and Bass Reference, Q180.55.M4 B66X 2008
This is an enormously helpful book pitched at the perfect level of sophistication for Yale students. Especially useful is chapter 3, which discusses how to turn a general interest in a subject into a focused research question or problem. This is a crucial step in any research project and one that is often given too little thought. The link above takes you to an e-book version of the 2nd edition.
