Scan & Deliver and Interlibrary Loan Article/Chapter Scans

Yale Library will continue to process interlibrary loan requests for articles and chapters (items not available from Yale Library) and Scan & Deliver requests (items available in the Yale Library collections). However, turnaround time for these services may be delayed, and the fulfillment of interlibrary loan requests is dependent on our partner libraries. We ask that you prioritize requesting items that are the most urgent for your research, course work, or patient care needs.

BorrowDirect and Physical Interlibrary Loan Services

BorrowDirect service has restarted as of September 25, 2020 with the addition of a Mail to Address option as of October 20, 2020. All interlibrary loan services, including the borrowing and lending of physical materials (such as books) have restarted as of October 7, 2020. Mail to Address is an option for Interlibrary Loan books and other physical materials borrowed through ILL, in addition to items borrowed through BorrowDirect. Please choose the Mail to Address option on the ILL or BorrowDirect request form when you make your request.

Returning BorrowDirect and ILL Materials

If you are on campus or in the New Haven area, you may return BorrowDirect and ILL materials to any open library book drop. Otherwise, please keep these items until you return to campus; any overdue fines and fees will be waived. If you wish to return your material before you return to campus, please contact Ask Yale Library for options.

Information about library services during COVID-19 can be found on the library's COVID-19 homepage.

Warning of Copyright Restrictions

WARNING OF COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS1

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of the copyright materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, library and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than in private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The Yale University Library reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if, in its judgement fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
