Drama Resources at Yale Library: Find Play Scripts

A guide to online resources available through the Yale University Library for drama, theater, and the performing arts.

Playscripts in Digital Formats

Watch this video for instructions on how to find individual online playscripts in Quicksearch.

  • Do a simple search in Quicksearch, or an advanced search in Books+ by Title, Author, or Keyword.
  • Facet your results to Online.
  • Choose the record you want to view, and (with your VPN connected) click the link below the title for access.

Search these databases for online playscripts:

Playscripts in Print

In Quicksearch, enter the title of the play as a Keyword search in quotes, for example “cherry orchard” or “six characters in search of an author.” This will find the play as a standalone title and also within anthologies or collections.

  • Too many hits? Try leaving quotes off and searching by Title rather than Keyword, for example Enron.
  • No hits? First try searching other research libraries via Borrow Direct. Next, try WorldCat, with the title in quotes, to look for the play within a collection or anthology, then search the title of the collection or anthology in Orbis. WorldCat is also a good way to find citations for items not held by Yale, so that you can place an Interlibrary Loan request through Get It @Yale.
