This guide is designed for Professor Dani Botsman’s RESEARCH IN JAPANESE HISTORY seminar. 

Acknowledgement:  This guide was initially prepared by Professor Andrew Gordon for a graduate research seminar taught at Harvard in 2004 on the basis of older guides compiled by Professor Albert Craig at Harvard in the 1970s and Dr. Kris Troost of Duke University in the 1980s. It thus represents the accumulated wisdom of several generations of researchers.  Since then, many new resources have become available, especially online resources, and new materials continue to be added. With Professor Botsman’s initial updates, the guide is intended to be continuously updated and we encourage students to inform us of useful additions and corrections.  We acknowledge Professor Gordon's generosity and cooperative spirit in sharing this material with us.
