COVID-19: Temporary Free Resources: Home

Resources

This guide provides access to content made freely available which supports the shift to remote online teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is a work-in-progress; content will be added as new offers become available and are reviewed. Its goal is to highlight resources that are of high interest to the Yale community.

Please note: The guide is for information only; Yale Library does not have the ability to set or influence the terms and conditions of these free-access offers.

The following providers have set up expanded or alternate methods for users to access content on their platforms. The list below details those options which the E-Resources Group can support during this period of remote/online work.

Unless otherwise stated, users will need to be connected to the Yale network during the initial registration/account creation/pairing process.

Users can pair a device (laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) with Yale's institutional subscription for use while off-campus. Initial device pairing must be done while connected to the Yale network via VPN. Once pairing completed, you will be able to access content remotely for 4 months. Users will be required to create a personal account (ACS ID). Access instructions here.

Users can pair their devices to Yale’s account to facilitate remote access to subscribed/licensed resources for 90 days after activation. Contact Andy Shimp (email) for the registration link. Please note that the device must have local storage and has enabled cookies and Javascript, in addition to internet access.

Users who have registered for a personal account can continue to access ArtSTOR with these credentials remotely for 120 days after creating the account while connected to the Yale network. After this initial remote access period, users must renew this access by using those account credentials to log into ArtSTOR while connected to the Yale network.

Users can gain remote access by affiliating their personal accounts with existing institutional subscriptions. To do so, simply sign in to your account from a computer while connected to the Yale network. This will automatically affiliate your personal account with Yale's subscription for a period of three months. When the affiliation lapses, you can again sign in from Yale's network to renew the affiliation for another three months.

Users can gain access to the Chronicle of Higher Education without being connected to the Yale network by creating a free account using their institutional @yale.edu email address.

Users can create a free account or sign in to your JAMA Network or AMA account from within Yale's network in order to get remote access. If you are already off campus, you can connect by VPN and log into the site during your VPN session. Once your individual account has been linked to your institution's profile, users will have 90 days of remote access before they will need to sign in again (the 90 days starts over each time you sign in from within your institution). After you have completed this process, you will not need extra credentials or a VPN.

Users can access JoVe content remotely by creating a free account using your @yale.edu email address.

Users who have registered for a personal account can continue to access JSTOR with these credentials remotely for 120 days after creating the account while connected to the Yale network. After this initial remote access period, users must renew this access by using those account credentials to log into JSTOR while connected to the Yale network.

Users can gain remote access by affiliating their personal accounts with existing institutional subscriptions. To do so, simply sign in to your account from a computer while connected to the Yale network. This will automatically affiliate your personal account with Yale's subscription for a period of 90 days after the last visit to the journal while on the institution's network. Users can sign in or create a free account via the “Sign In” link at the top right corner of any page on RUP journal websites.

Connect to your institution’s internet network via a VPN and log in and enter your personal account details. If you don’t have an account, you can set one up for free in a couple of minutes by clicking the register button. This will automatically associate your account with Yale’s available subscribed access. For the next 90 days, you will be able to access Yale’s subscriptions by simply logging into your personal account. After this initial period, you can renew this access by connecting to the Yale network again and logging into your personal account again to reset and start another 90-day access period.
