Scan and Deliver: Digitized Articles/Chapters

You can get free scans of almost all its printed materials in your e-mail inbox. Yale provides this service free of charge – students can request up to two chapters or articles per book and receive the scans in about two days.  For more information on scan and deliver, visit the Scan and Deliver website. To use this service, simply do the following:

Find out what item you need and which pages/articles/chapters you need scanned. Search for the item on Orbis.

Step #1: Pull up the Orbis record of the item you would like scanned. Underneath the listed location of the item (i.e. Bass or LSF), there will be a blue link that reads “Request scan of article/chapter.”

Step #2: Click on the "request scan" link. A form will pop up where you can specify which articles or chapters you would like scanned. Submit the form.

Step #3: After you submit the form, you will receive a transaction number. You are done!

Below is a short series of screenshots to walk you through the scan request process.

Request Item Delivery from One Yale Library to Another

Found great books or DVDs in many Yale libraries (i.e. Sterling, Medical Library, Marx Library) but don't have time to go to each individual library to retrieve them? Yale has a delivery option so you can get all of your materials at one pickup place! Simply do the following:

Steps #1 & 2: Search for the item on Orbis.

Step #3: Open the item's Orbis record. Below the item's listed location (i.e. Bass or LSF), there will be a blue link that reads "Request recall or delivery."

Step #4: Once you click on the link, a new "Place Requests" window will pop up - click on "Request staff search or delivery."

Step #5: A new window will pop up - fill out a short form specifying what specific copy of the item you want. At the bottom of the form, select a pickup location (the drop-down menu for locations is located right above the form "submit" button.)

Step #6: After you hit submit, you are done! You should receive your item on the same day or within two days. Below is a short series of screenshots to walk you through the delivery request process:

Materials from Other Libraries, Institutions

Borrow Direct

Borrow Direct is an interlibrary borrowing service that allows Yale faculty, students and staff to request books directly from other participating university libraries (Brown, Columbia, etc.). The service allows readers to request items from other institutions for quick delivery. Requests can be submitted 24/7 via this website. Below is an example request.

Interlibrary Loan

In the unlikely event that Yale does not have a desired item in its collection, students can use the interlibrary loan (ILL) service to request the item from libraries around the world. Interlibrary Loan usually has a delivery period of 4-14 days. For more information and to submit loan requests, please visit the ILL website.
