Finding Materials

The Birren Collection of Books on Color is a part of the Arts Library's Special Collections. Materials must be requested in advance to use in the Special Collections reading room. Once you find an item you would like to use in the reading room, you can request it directly from the Quicksearch record.

The Arts Library holds several items related to color in its general collections. You can find these resources by searching Quicksearch Advanced Search for the following subject headings:

"Color"

"Color in art"

"Color in design"

"Red in art" (You can substitute "red" for other colors like "yellow," blue," etc.)

You can also use these subject headings to conduct an advanced search for items in the Birren Collection. Enter the heading in the Subject field and "Faber Birren Collection (Yale University)" in the Author field. The system will bring up all items in the Birren Collection about that subject.
