Keep to the 72-hour turnaround time. This is our only hard and fast rule. YPEI students are relying on us for timely responses to their requests.
Follow the RRN’s file-naming conventions. The file names of requests you receive will include a date, the student’s first name and last initial, and “RQ” (indicating that this is a research request and not a transcription request, which would be labeled “TN”). Example: 2.1.24 Steven D. RQ.
Make use of the Yale and University of New Haven library websites. There is so much content available (for free!) at these two institutions.
Include a short and friendly reply to your student, reviewing what you are sending back to them and citation information for each item. (Any citation style is fine.)
Stitch together all of the materials you are returning to the student into one large PDF. You can use CombinePDF.com or ILOVEPDF.com, or the Chrome extension PrintFriendly, to do this.
Keep the same file name for your response. If your request is 1.17.24 Karmen E. RQ, your response (original request + your reply + materials) should also be called 1.17.24 Karmen E. RQ.
Tell your friends about the Research Request Network! We are always looking for volunteers for the fall and spring semesters – and the summer too. They can visit https://bit.ly/YPEIvolunteer to sign up.
Ignore your email! A lot of important stuff still arrives that way (and not just RRN requests).
Worry about declining a request now and then. We all get super busy at times. It’s okay.
Hesitate to ask for advice or clarification – send a note to RRN.Requests@gmail.com for help.
Print out responses yourself – save your print $$ for your own use! YPEI staff will print the materials out for you.
