The image databases listed here often offer higher resolution photos than what you will find in a standard web search, as well as more information about the objects pictured. Digital versions of objects in the Yale University Art Gallery and Yale Center for British Art collections are great starting points, but you may also be able to view them in person by visiting the galleries or arranging at time to view objects in their reading rooms. Yale University Libraries provide access to the following image databases and collections. 

• ARTstor

  Vended image database offering over three million images, many from museum collections, searchable by keyword and browsable by medium, time period, etc. Register and log in to download JPEGs to your computer. Create your own details by zooming in and downloading JPEGs of zoomed-in views.
• Yale Digital Collections

  Offers hundreds of digitized items from across the Yale Library system including photographs, maps, book arts, and more.
• Yale University Art Gallery

  Searchable images of art owned by the Yale Gallery of Art. Often image listings let you know if it is in the public domain or not.
• Yale Center for British Art

  Over 100,000 searchable images of art owned by the Yale Center for British Art. Some listings include bibliographies of books and articles related to the work.
