Ancient Economy: Comparative Research

A guide to resources for the study of the ancient economy

Doing Comparative Research

One place to start is with one or more of the major economic references works: The Oxford Encyclopedia of Economic History and the New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics. Look up the major concept or concepts that you wish to investigate, i.e. "slavery," "interest," "taxation" etc. You'll find articles on how economists and economic historians approach the subject, and, especially in the OEEH, an historical overview.
