EarthChem is a data resource supported by the Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance and the NSF. It provides access to geochemical, geochronological, and petrological data.

OneGeology is an international initiative of the geological surveys of the world. It was launched in 2007 and was a flagship project of the International Year of Planet Earth.

The British Geological Survey's online portal to free data, covering everything from drilling to seismology and geomagnetism. The focus is on observational data from Great Britain.

The information system PANGAEA is operated as an Open Access library aimed at archiving, publishing and distributing georeferenced data from earth system research. The system guarantees long-term availability of its content through a commitment of the operating institutions. Most of the data are freely available and can be used under the terms of the license mentioned on the data set description. A few password protected data sets are under moratorium from ongoing projects. The description of each data set is always visible and includes the principle investigator (PI) who may be asked for access.

r3data is a tool for helping people identify and locate online repositories of research data. Users and bibliographers create and curate records that describe data repositories that users can search. The NGGDPP Best Practices project is a community portal for Federal agencies, State Geological Surveys, academic, and research institutions to share experiences and methods used to preserve physical samples, digital data and analog materials. This project attempts to define common practices and standards in geoscience data and samples preservation, as well as highlight techniques and practices identified by the data preservation community as the best in their fields.
