Welcome to Yale Library's celebration of International Open Access Week 2024!  In addition to several exciting events, we will be updating this page daily during Open Access Week with information on how you can build openness into your work and scholarship!

Monday, October 21

Celebrate the impact of open access in your research and scholarship every day!  Watch this video of a conversation between Daniel Dollar, Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Resources at Yale Library, and Peter Suber, Senior Advisor on Open Access (in Harvard Library) and Director of the Harvard Open Access Project,  about openness: https://yale.box.com/v/suber-dollar.  Browse Peter Suber's seminal work on open access (freely available online!) and his other writings.

Imagining an Open Future at Yale Library

In 2023, the Openness Strategy Task Force at Yale library recommended that the library adopt an author's rights policy or statement to empower library authors to maintain rights to their scholarship.  This session is for library staff to learn about the progress currently being made on this effort, the values and principles guiding the process, and next steps.  We want to hear from you - bring your thoughts and feedback on what such a policy should look like at YUL, and how it should be interpreted/adopted! Please register to see a draft proposal.

Thursday, October 24th, 2:00-2:30pm, Zoom

Fair Use Workshop

Join Tess Colwell, Arts Librarian for Research Services, and Lindsay Barnett, Scholarly Communication Librarian, for an informative discussion about fair use and copyright.  Learn about your rights as an author of creative works and how fair use, an exemption in US copyright law, applies to the use of copyrighted works.
