Welcome to the Yale University Library Guide For Visiting Students!
This guide was put together by students as a basic guide to help you navigate the library's resources during your stay at Yale, including access to online resources (databases) and of course the library's extensive shelved materials in Sterling Memorial library.
Library Basics - This section will answer basic questions about the library, including borrowing privileges and library hours of operation.
Research - Helpful tips for conducting research. This section of the guide is broken down into several pieces, including using manuscripts/archives, online materials, the library search engine Orbis and borrowing materials from other institutions.
Library On The Go - Using the library's resources off-campus or mobile.
Citing Sources - A word on Yale's citation expectations and tools to help you assemble bibliographies.
Do you have additional questions about the library system? Speak to a librarian online using Ask Yale. Library. We welcome any feedback! Please feel free to contact us clicking the "send e-mail" link located in our profile boxes on the right sidebar.
Students have access to all of Yale's libraries and are more than welcome to study in them!
Every library has a variety of study spaces for anyone to use, including individual desks, group tables and some even have private study rooms. Find the study space that best fits you using our Places to Study guide. You can sort study spaces by specific criteria, such as ones that have natural light, printers and scanners or coffee/snacks near by.
In addition to bookshelves, the Sterling bookstacks also have reading rooms, group/individual study rooms. You can also reserve group study rooms. To reserve rooms and check out a list of places to study, visit this website. Reserving group study rooms requires a Yale e-mail address. Please contact your camp counselor for help.
Students have access to all the libraries on campus. Most items are housed in Sterling Memorial library. Many of our libraries are tailored to specific fields, including the Arts Library, Marx Science and Social Science Library and the Geology Library and house materials and library staff that specialize in that field.
