Robertson was the executive director of the Milbank Memorial Fund in New York City from 1962 until 1969. From 1969 until 1990, he held numerous positions with the World Health Organization (WHO) such as chief of human resources for the Caribbean; regional advisor on medical education and public health; public health administrator; director of health manpower development; and director of health services in the regional office for the Eastern Mediterranean in Alexandria, Egypt.

The papers primarily document the administration of the debt-burdened estate of Auchinleck after the death of Sir Alexander Boswell in 1822. In addition, there are letters by Charles Douglas, a planter in Jamaica, concerning many aspects of his life and career, such as his ownership of slaves and opinions about slavery, immigrant life in Jamaica, and the impact of the Napoleonic Wars on the Caribbean.

The papers consist of correspondence and business papers of Aaron Columbus Burr, merchant of New York City and adopted son of Aaron Burr. The papers relate to an attempt by Burr and James Grant to establish a colony for freed American slaves in Honduras. There is also material relating to the American Honduras Company, a firm formed by Burr and Grant for the cutting and exporting of mahogany.

Collection consists of documents relating to France's secret and open role on behalf of the American Revolution. Contains papers related to France's role in the Caribbean and its alliance with the Spanish forces, including several reports by Diego José Navarro; French rule of Santo Domingo after the Treaty of Paris; and other materials including documents related to naval confrontations between the French and British fleets, the supplying of Rochambeau's army, the termination of hostilities.

The papers consist of 56 dossiers containing over 3600 documents relating to government of Martinique, Guadeloupe, and other French colonies in the West Indies, most dating from Rochambeau’s term as gouverneur général des Isles du Vent, 1792-1794. Also present are small amounts of papers created by earlier colonial administrators, 1762-1791, or relating to Rochambeau’s surrender to the British, parole, and return to Saint-Domingue, 1794-1802. These papers consist of an amusing three-volume collection of anecdotes illustrative of American manners and morals in the 1920s and 1930s. Culled by Frederick Dwight from his own experiences and from stories he heard in New York society and on his travels to the Caribbean (1924), South America (1929-1930), Mexico (1931), and the West Indies (1932), the anecdotes reveal Dwight's interest in the customs of the countries he visited.

Watercolor sketchbooks created and scrapbooks chiefly compiled by Henry Duncan Grant that document his world travel as an officer in the Royal Navy, 1866-1896 and his family until 1900. Much of his work after 1891 concerns England, Egypt, and the Caribbean. Duncan painted seashores, harbors, buildings, cemeteries, landscapes, animals, plants, and copies of other artwork.

Series I, Personal Correspondence , contains the bulk of the letters received by Hughes during his lifetime. Hughes took much interest in the careers of younger African-American, African, Caribbean, and Central American writers such as: Leroi Jones; Ted Joans, and Alice Walker.

In addition to photographs, John Curran collected more than seventy-five Italian drawings by Maggiotto and Tiepolo, and more than fifty early nineteenth-century French engravings and lithographs. Anna (IV) and Archibald (V) Livingston’s trips to Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, and most especially throughout the American West, resulted in hundreds of images made between the 1880s and the 1950s, many of which were organized into albums.

Series VI, PHOTOGRAPHS, contains seven folders of photographs, two photograph scrapbooks of Alfreda Mitchell, fourteen photograph albums of Alfred Mitchell, and eight albums of photographs by professional photographers. Other albums document the family's many trips to Europe, the Caribbean, Egypt, Mexico, and the southern and western United States.

The Nelson Hayes papers contain correspondence, writings, journals, and other materials documenting the personal and professional life of author Nelson Hayes. Materials throughout the collection also document Hayes's special interest in the Caribbean. For example, photographs relating to the Caribbean. Specific writings set in the Caribbean include "Caribbean Junket", Dildo Cay, and "Spanceled". Otherwise, the bulk of the general correspondence in the collection is with Hayes's wife and mother.

The records consist of newsletters, programs, announcements, and other political ephemera documenting the history of the Nationalist Party of Puerto Rico.

The papers document the West Indian portions of the economic fortunes and political career of the sugar planter and politician Ralph Payne, first Baron Lavington.

The collection consists of papers relating to several generations of the family of Leonidas Polk (1806-1864), Episcopal bishop and general in the Confederate army. Correspondents include Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, James T. Holly, first black Episcopal bishop of Haiti, and several Confederate military leaders.

His 1901, 1904, and 1909-1910 letters describe travel and study in Europe, while a trip to the Caribbean and Venezuela is detailed in 1903 letters.

Selden Rodman was born February 19, 1909, in New York City. He graduated from Yale College in 1931. In the 1930s, he helped found the journal Common Sense (1932-1946) with Alfred Bingham. During World War II, he served in the foreign nationalities section of the Office of Strategic Services. In 1944, the Haitian government produced his play, The Revolutionists, which lead to a later career as co-director for the Haitian Centre d'Art (1949-1951), promoting Haitian folk art internationally.

The papers consist of family letters, business letters, and business and personal accounts of the Pardee family. The principal figures in the collection are Stephen Dickerman Pardee and his son John S. Pardee, who served in the U.S. Navy. The letters, which date from 1852-1853, describe life on board ship and in port at Pensacola, Florida, as well as cruises in the Caribbean and to Cuba.

Spanning more than thirty-five years, from before his arrival in Jamaica in 1750 through his death in 1786, the archive comprises some 92 volumes of diaries and notebooks. A slave owner, Thistlewood used his diaries to document his daily experiences as a planter over three decades. These 37 volumes, arranged by year, leave a detailed portrait of the racial, sexual, economic, and other realities of plantation life in Jamaica in the mid-eighteenth century.

The collection consists of ships' logs, nineteenth-century cargo manifests of Connecticut ships on fishing voyages, and the papers of ships sailing to the West Indies for rum and sugar and to the Antarctic on sealing expeditions.
