Roadmap Stop 11: Consequences of the "Gender Tax"

Dr. Judith Aberg was the keynote speaker for this session on December 7, 2022. She is currently Dean of System Operations for Clinical Sciences, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and the Dr. George Baeher Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai.

About Judith Aberg

Dr. Judith Aberg was the keynote speaker for this session. She is currently Dean of System Operations for Clinical Sciences, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases, and the Dr. George Baeher Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai

She is an internationally renowned expert in infectious disease and has participated in more than 200 clinical trials. She was co-director of the AIDS clinical trial unit at UCSF. Currently, she serves as a Dean working with others to introduce and integrate clinical and translational research across the Mount Sinai Health System. She has been instrumental in developing national, state, and local guidelines for HIV prevention and treatment trials and currently serves as a member of the National Institutes of Health COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines panel.

Dr. Aberg is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications including the 2017 JID article entitled “Diversity in the US infectious diseases workforce: challenges for women and underrepresented minorities”. In this session, Dr. Aberg spoke about the “gender tax” and how it impacts compensation and promotion. She also discussed strategies for how eliminating implicit bias in an academic environment.
