Searching for Articles vs. Searching for Journals

The resources below are meant to help you identify individual journal articles related to your topic. IF you are looking for a journal (this includes academic journals, e.g. PMLA, or literary journals, e.g. n+1, or popular journals, e.g. The Paris Review, you should proceed to Quicksearch or Orbis, and use the advanced search to search by "Journal Title" or under the link Books+ select Journal Title from the dropdown menu.

General Bibliographies and Databases for Journal Articles

MLA International Bibliography
The MLA Bibliography indexes materials on literature, languages, linguistics, film and folklore, excluding book reviews. Access to citations from journals and series published worldwide, as well as books, essay collections, and dissertations.
Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature
The annual bibliography of English language and literature lists English language monographs, periodical articles, literary works, book reviews, essays, and doctoral dissertations published anywhere in the world. Coverage begins in 1920, with select publications available between 1892 and 1919.
Arts & Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science)
An international interdisciplinary index to the literature of the arts and humanities, indexing the contents of about 6,100 journals, covering about 1,000 fully and about 5,100 selectively. The Citation Index allows one to find what later articles have cited earlier books or articles.
Academic Search Premier
Academic Search Premier is a scholarly, multi-disciplinary full text database for many journals with indexing and abstracts for many more journals in the collection. Nearly every area of academic study is included: computer science, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more. Images are also included in this collection.

A virtual library containing works of English and American poetry, drama and prose, full-text literature journals, and other key criticism and reference resources.
Gale Literature Resource Center
Searchable database of full-text articles, essays, book reviews, plot summaries, poems, short stories, plays, and interviews with contemporary writers.
Historical Abstracts
The primary resource to find resources on history. Covers scholarly literature published between 1955 and the present. Materials in many languages are indexed.
