ENGL 375: Wayward Lines: Black Feminist Literature and Theory: Using special collections at Yale

A library research guide for English 375: Wayward Lines--Black Feminist Literature and Theory

A few suggestions:

In addition to using primary source databases, you may wish to take advantage of the many special collection and archival resources available at Yale.

  • If looking for a specific book or text, it is sometimes easier to begin in the Yale library catalog and use the search facets to filter for results by date and by location, to look for items held in special collection repositories (i.e. Manuscripts and Archives or the Beinecke)
  • If you are looking for a collection of papers, you can also begin your search in the catalog, but it is sometimes easier to use the dedicated special collections discovery tool, Archives at Yale
  • Even if Yale does not hold all the papers of a particular individual or papers relating to a particular event or topic, some sources may be available in other or related collections. In this case, Archives at Yale is the best place to start your search.
  • Curators are available to help! You may reach out the A curator for the Yale Collection of American Literature, the Yale Collection of Western Americana, the curator of the James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection, the Poetry curator, the US History and American Diplomacy curator, or reach out to me to facilitate a meeting.
