US Government Information: FOIA and MDR Requests

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests

The Freedom of Information Act is the law that gives you the right to access information from the federal government. Filing a FOIA request can be complicated; the resources below will help demystify the process.

Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR) requests

Unlike FOIA requests, Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR) requests can be made only for classified documents, and the request must be narrow in scope (e.g., a specific document or set of documents).
