Japanese Reference Materials for Studying Japanese Cinema at Yale University: Bibliographies/Indexes

Overview

Bibliographies and indexes can give you a sense of what has been published, and thus help you find what you need especially if, like the Tsuji bibliography, they are arranged by subject. Books like the Imamura can also provide a history of film publishing in Japan. Online indexes to periodicals are getting better for film, but the Makino books still offer the best indexes for the prewar era. The Tanikawa is a valuable guide to where film scripts have been published. Also included here are a few critical introductions to film books.
