Japanese Reference Materials for Studying Japanese Cinema at Yale University: Film Encyclopedias/Dictionaries



In addition to providing information on particular films and people, these books can, depending on the work, offer historical accounts of institutions and trends, definitions of terms, lists of awards, reprints of film laws, and statistics. The Sekai eiga daijiten is the most recent and comprehensive, but Eiga no jiten is quite practical and includes film laws and the Shin eiga jiten is virtually a scholarly discussion of basic issues in film studies.
