Most patrons will be prompted to log in or create an account after they have clicked on a "request link" from Archives at Yale, Orbis, or Quicksearch.  This is the page they will see.

 

 

New and returning Yale patrons need only click on the Yale-University-Login button on the left, indicated by the red arrow.  This will prompt them to log in with their Yale NetID and password.

After logging in for the first time, Yale NetID holders will see the First Time Account Registration form in Aeon (screenshot below). The form should be prepopulated with their information.  They should verify that information is correct.

At the bottom of the form, the patron will need to click the check box to indicate that they agree to the Yale Special Collections User Agreement and then click on the blue "Submit Information" button. The agreement can be read by clicking on the title of the active agreement in the gray box. ("Common Agreement for Special Collections at Yale August 2023" in the screenshot.)

 

7.  After completing the form, the patron should see the Aeon home screen.  This indicates that they have successfully created their account.  Note that if they were trying to request an item, they may need to go back to the record and initiate their request again. The new SSO does not allow us to  "hold" the request while the patron is creating their account.

Existing non-Yale users can log in by entering their name and password on the right.  However, non-NetID patrons with accounts created before the SSO change will be required to change their password the first time they log in after the switch. Their usernames will stay the same. They will not be required to enter a password reset confirmation code as is the usual process for password resets. (See "Troubleshooting Patron Registration" tab.)

For new accounts, patrons not using a NetID will need to follow the steps below. 

1. Click on the Sign up link that is circled below

2.  The patron will be prompted to enter

• username
  • they may choose their own, but it must be unique in the system
  • usernames may not contain "yale" anywhere; for people whose names include Yale, this is unfortunate but a necessary restriction
• email address
  • may not be a Yale email
• password (requirements show up in red text once the patron has started to enter a password; each will turn green after it is met)

 

 

3.  Once the patron has entered this information, they should click on the "Sign up" button indicated by the arrow below.

 

4. The system will send a very short email message to the patron with a verification code, which the patron will be prompted to enter at the login screen.

• The email will be, as shown in the screenshot, from id.library@yale.edu via amazonses.com. Patrons should be sure to look in any junk/spam folders if they do not see the email immediately.
• If the patron conclusively does not receive an email, they can receive a new verification code by clicking the "Send a new code" link at the bottom.
• The verification code is only valid for 24 hours.

After the patron has entered the code, they should click the "Confirm account" button toward the bottom of the screen.

 

 

 

 

5 . After the patron verifies their email as described in step 4, they will be routed to the First Time Account Registration form in Aeon (screenshot below). The patron will need to fill out the required fields on the form.
