The inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) was appointed in 2014, inheriting a configuration of responsibilities previously held by the Provost (financial oversight of the FAS) and the Deans of Yale College and the Graduate School (academic oversight of the faculty of the FAS). The FAS Dean oversees the 42 departments and programs that compose the FAS, which are configured into three divisions: Humanities, Social Science, and Science. The School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) was previously part of the FAS until it was established as a standalone unit on July 1, 2022.
