Documentation, meeting minutes, and other information from the LibGuides 2 Implementation Group

Agenda

  • 5 min: Recap from last meeting
  • 45 min:  Boxes that would be useful

Boxes suggested at previous meeting:

  • Managing citations
  • Events:  Citation workshops
  • Chicago manual of style/MLA links
  • VPN/accessing resources from off-campus
  • Get it @ Yale
  • Ask a Librarian
  • Video support for screencast snippets (what size to use)

  • Research Impact for Medical and Marx Library
  • Creating widgets

Minutes

Decisions:

  • It would be useful for this group to put out a brief report on what is going to be needed to keep LibGuides 2 going after the migration (someone to keep all the shared boxes up to date, someone to remind guide authors that they need to review their guides, etc.)

To do

  • Look through LibGuides 1 and see if there are common boxes that get used often

Discussion

Reusable boxes

From ICRS:

  • Quicksearch
  • How to use the Microfilm Reading Room
  • What is microfilm?
  • WorldCat (with descriptive text of what WorldCat is)
  • MLA/Chicago Manual of Style
  • VPN information
  • How to use Archival Collections
  • Finding Aid Directory/How to interpret finding aids

Vendor search widgets

  • JSTOR
  • Credo
  • EBSCO
  • Check other vendors' websites and see if they have widgets

Katie put together a guide of reusable boxes:  http://guides.library.yale.edu/libguides/content

From University of Washington:

  • Article lookup
  • Google Books

Other useful boxes:

  • How to use eBrary
  • How to find Yale materials using Google Scholar
  • What happens if I'm asked to pay for articles (found via Google Scholar)
  • Find a Subject Specialist widget
  • HathiTrust
  • Streaming audio and video
  • Images (finding images)
  • ILL:  If you need a book that's not at Yale
  • ILL:  If you need an article Yale doesn't have access to
  • A box of links to guides that are generic and useful:
    • For faculty guide
    • For undergraduates guide (coming soon)

Someone is going to need to maintain these boxes and keep them up to date.  Do we need to write a brief report on what is going to be needed post-migration?
