Research Guides: Guidelines for Creating/Revising Guides: Naming Your Guide

Tips, suggestions, templates and best practices for creating libguides

Give Your Guide a Friendly URL

When your guide is ready for publishing, be sure to give it a friendly URL.  The URL should be both brief and meaningful.  Use only lower-case letters and the hyphen.  Do not use spaces or special characters.  If you are creating a course guide, include the course abbreviation and number in the URL.

Naming Your Course Guide

Use the official course code in the title

For courses with cross-listings, include up to two course codes in the title separated by slashes, e.g., HIST 143J/HSHM 412 History of Cancer.  If there are more than two cross-listings, give the course guide the title of the course and put the course codes in the Short Description and Welcome Box.

For official course codes, consult the Yale Online Course Information site at https://courses.yale.edu/
