When placing a rush order with Amazon, please take the time to verify whether the title may already be coming from approval plan vendors, such as YBP. Titles listed in YBP’s GOBI system as coming on approval may be blocked to avoid duplication. Instructions on using GOBI to determine if titles will be received on approval and how to block them from coming are below.

If you are unsure if a title will come on approval or if the title is too far along in the system to block, contact ost@mailman.yale.edu and we will contact the vendor to stop the title from coming.

Please keep in mind that stopping titles from coming on approval and ordering through Amazon should only be driven by a patron’s needs for a rush copy. If GOBI lists the title as “preparing to ship”, and the patron can wait, we prefer to acquire the title through YBP. If the title has already been shipped, please do not duplicate by ordering through Amazon.

This same advice goes for our Western European vendors. If there is any question as to whether one of our European vendors will be supplying a needed title on approval, we can contact the appropriate vendor on your behalf.

How to determine through GOBI that a title is coming on approval:

Don’t assume a title isn’t coming on approval if there is no corresponding record in Voyager. There is a lag time between processing for approval and loading of bib records into the Yale system.

Log into your GOBI account to search for a title. If it is slated for approval it will be noted in the record. Unless the processing is too far along, you will be able to place the block. Instructions are below.

Since Yale has multiple accounts with YBP, a title may not be coming on approval on the account you are logged into but still may come on another Yale account. To see the status a title across all Yale accounts, you need to use GobiTween. Click on the GobiTween link in the upper left hand corner of the record to see if it is coming on any other Yale account. If a title is coming to another Yale library, we must have permission from that library to block their approval copy. Please contact ost@mailman.yale.edu for this.

Blocking titles in GOBI:

Log in to gobi3.com, in the blue banner across the top, select “Search”. Under Search Approvals, select “Block/Unblock Titles”.  Enter ISBN or Title in the search box and click the Green arrow Search to retrieve records.

If it is being profiled it is too late to for us to block in GOBI but not too late to stop from shipping. Notify ost@mailman.yale.edu and we will have our vendor rep block the title from coming.

If it say's "Cannot block: Title has already shipped", it can't be blocked but the title is on its way and a patron will not have to wait long. Do not firm order! Contact ost@mailman.yale.edu  to create patron hold.
