Ira Sachs (1965) is a filmmaker originally from Memphis, TN. In his youth, Sachs regularly attended the Sundance Film Festival on visits with his father who lived in Park City, UT. These excursions inspired Sachs to pursue filmmaking, and he earned a bachelor's degree in 1988 from Yale University in literature with a focus in film studies and film theory. After being rejected from film school, he moved to New York City and began creating short films. His first feature film The Delta was released in 1997. Additional titles of acclaim include Love is Strange (2014), Little Men (2016), and Passages (2023). Sachs is also the Founding Director of Queer|Art, a non-profit arts organization that aims to provide individuals within the LGBTQ+ "with the tools, resources, and guidance they need to achieve success and visibility for their work at the highest levels of their field."
