Shahzia Sikander (1969) is originally from Lahore, Pakistan. She works in a wide variety of mediums from creating large installations and exploring digital animation. Sikander began her artistic journey, however, by studying the traditional Indo-Persian practice of miniature painting. Sikander earned her BFA in 1991 from the National College of Arts in Lahore. She then moved to the United States to attend the Rhode Island School of Design, where she obtained her MFA in painting and printmaking in 1995. Sikander currently resides in New York City.
