Peter van Agtmael (1981) is a documentary photographer. He is known best for covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and exploring the consequences of 9-11 in the United States. Born in Washington, DC, Van Agtmael grew up primarily in Bethesda, Maryland. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Yale University in 2003. He is a member of Magnum Photos and a mentor in the Arab Documentary Photography Program. Currently based in New York, Van Agtmael also cofounded Red Hook Editions, which works to collaboratively produce high quality photobooks.
